FAQ

The honest answers

Real questions from real applicants and their families. We'd rather you know exactly what you're walking into than be surprised on day one.

Who is Ever Lasting Sobriety for?

Adult men in early recovery from drugs or alcohol who are committed to sobriety and willing to live in a structured environment with rules. We are not a treatment center — we are a sober residence designed to bridge the gap between treatment and independent living.

Are these men-only houses?

Yes. Every Ever Lasting Sobriety is a men's residence. Each location operates under the same standards and house rules.

Where are your houses?

We currently have houses in Worcester MA, Brockton MA, New Bedford MA, North Providence RI, and New Haven CT.

How do I apply?

Use the online application at /apply. It takes about 15 minutes and walks you through everything we need to know. Or call (508) 456-6345 and we'll talk through it.

How quickly can I move in?

If we're a fit and a bed is open, often within a week. The application gets reviewed within 1 business day, and we'll follow up with next steps.

Do you accept insurance?

No. We are a sober-living residence, not a clinical treatment program. Residents pay their own weekly rent. We can refer you to insurance-covered treatment if that's what you need first.

Is there a minimum stay?

We ask for a 90-day commitment. Recovery during the first 90 days is when most relapses happen — staying through that window is the single biggest factor in long-term sobriety.

What does daily life look like?

A bed, a chore, a daily check-in, weekly house meetings, and outside meetings (AA, NA, SMART, or whichever fits you). Curfew is 11 PM Sun–Thu and midnight Fri–Sat. Quiet hours start at 9 PM. Most residents work or are looking for work.

Do you drug test?

Yes. Random urine drug screens 1–3 times per week, plus testing any time substance use is suspected. Refusal to test is treated the same as a positive test.

What happens if I relapse?

Drug or alcohol use — on or off the property — results in immediate removal. You have 60 minutes to leave. We can re-apply after 60 days if you re-engage with treatment. This isn't punishment — it's the rule that protects every other resident's recovery.

What about medications I'm already on?

Prescribed medications taken under a physician's supervision are fine. You must disclose all prescriptions on intake and report any changes during your stay. We do not administer medications — you manage your own, ideally in a lockbox or your own room. MAT (Suboxone, methadone, naltrexone, etc.) is supported.

Can I have visitors?

Yes, in first-floor common areas only. Visits last up to 3 hours and must end by 9 PM. All visitors need to be approved in advance. No overnight guests. Suspected intoxicated visitors will be removed.

Can I bring a car?

Only with the house manager's permission. Parking is limited. You'll need to provide license, registration, inspection, and insurance documentation. You can't loan the car to other residents.

What's NOT allowed?

Drugs and alcohol (obviously). Also: weapons, energy drinks, candles or hot plates in bedrooms, indoor smoking or vaping, alcohol-based hygiene products, unprescribed medications, CBD products, pornography, sexual or romantic relationships with other residents or staff.

What if I'm on parole or probation?

Many of our residents are. We work with case workers, probation officers, and parole officers regularly. You can list your contact on the application.

Can a case manager apply for me?

Yes. Case managers can call (508) 456-6345 or apply on a client's behalf using the case-manager portal — we'll set you up with an account. The application gets automatically tagged to you so we know who to follow up with.

What happens if I have a problem with another resident?

First try to resolve it directly. If you can't, talk to the house manager. If it's about the house manager or remains unresolved, escalate to Ever Lasting Sobriety management. Anything we can't resolve internally goes to MASH (Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing) — they govern certified residences and have a formal grievance process.

Are you certified?

Yes. We are MASH-certified, which means we follow industry-standard rules, undergo regular inspections, and operate under MASH's ethical guidelines. You can verify any MASH-certified residence at mashsoberhousing.org.

Still have questions?

We'd rather answer one more question now than have you wonder about it for a week.
